This week's music
Before the Choir starts singing services again we thought it would be a good opportunity to webcast something 'from the archive'. Not to be confused with or new archive service, SJC Live, this is simply a whole service from 2008. Blair in B minor hasn't appeared on our music lists for a couple of years so this is a rare opportunity to hear it in a St John's context. The service is from Trinity Sunday in 2008 and so includes the Marian antiphon 'Benedictus es' before and after the Magnificat. The Anthem is another canticle, usually sung at Matins, the Te Deum ('We praise Thee, O God'). The picture to the left is of the Choir at that time, in First Court.
This week's blog
This week we're getting ready to record our next Chandos CD, of music by Henry Purcell. We'll be teaming up once again with our own period orchestra, St John's Sinfonia and look forward to working with them and the excellent Chandos team to add this brilliant music to the extensive John's discography.
We encourage you to take full advantage of the various ways of listening to the Choir through our website, through the webcasts, SJC Live or even through the video clips on our CD pages; however there's obviously nothing quite like hearing the Choir live in the Chapel. Members of the public are welcome to all of our choral services and the music list for this term is now online.
