St John's started broadcasting Evensong for Ash Wednesday on BBC Radio 3's Choral Evensong in 1972 and continues to do so every other year, alternating with a broadcast of Choral Evensong later in the year and supplemented by the annual broadcast of our Advent Carol Service.
Since the broadcasting of the service began, the Psalm for Ash Wednesday (Psalm 51) has been sung to the setting by Gregorio Allegri, Miserere mei, Deus.
