Nurturing musical talent

Nurturing musical talent: target £1 million

Aim: to increase our resources and the opportunities to provide an outstanding musical education for our choristers, choral students and organ students.

Sample projects:

Lessons in improvisation

Many of the country’s leading organists received their formative training at St John’s. A gift of £800 would provide lessons in improvisation for both our organ students for one year.

Graduate choral scholarships

In providing an excellent musical education, the Choir has proved particularly successful as a vehicle for developing vocal talent for the world of opera and oratorio. St John’s is keen to build on this success by offering opportunities to promising young singers who would benefit from a year singing in the Choir after graduation to develop their vocal technique. A gift of £15,000 would provide complete support for a graduate choral scholarship for one year. Such a scholarship could be endowed in perpetuity for £415,000.

Singing lessons

Both the Choral Scholars and the Choristers of the Choir are fortunate enough to benefit from singing lessons from internationally renowned singing teacher David Lowe. A gift of £10,000 would fund the Choral Scholars’ singing lessons for one year.
