The Royal College of Music

Every year some of the country's finest young singers (and some fierce competition from overseas) audition to win places at the UK's top conservatories. And each year, not dissimilar to concert and opera programmes around the world, the list of successful applicants has a strong representation from St John's.

We are very pleased to announce that George Dye (Choral Scholar 2007-2011), Alex Spinney (Choral Scholar 2007-2009), Henry Neill (Choral Scholar 2008-2011) and Nick Morton (Chorister 1997-2002) have all won places at distinguished colleges in London – the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This is by no means out of the ordinary for members of St John's Choir. Many of the world's leading musicians who studied at these establishments have their roots in St John's, whether you look at baritone Simon Keenlyside (former Chorister and Choral Scholar) at the RNCM, countertenor Iestyn Davies (former Chorister and Choral Scholar) or tenor Allan Clayton (former Choral Scholar). St John's Choir Alumni also have the habit of turning up at the world's most high-profile venues as instrumentalists, conductors, organists and opera directors. See our Alumni page for more examples!
