St John's College Graduation Service 2012

This Sunday the Choir and College will say goodbye to another year of Choral Scholars and Choristers. Inevitably, with that, finishes the academic life of the leaving Gents – at least for most of them – and this is marked each year by a Graduation Service in Chapel. The service is for all members of the College who are graduating ('graduands') and usually takes the form of a series of a psalm, anthems and readings, usually including an extract from William Wordsworth's 'Ode on the intimations of immortality'. Wordsworth himself graduated from St John's in 1791 and the room where he lived in College is named after him, in south-west corner of First Court. During College Feasts when the Choir sings Grace, the Choristers and Gents usually enjoy their rather lavish dinner in the Wordsworth Room. From the horse's mouth:

"The Evangelist St. John my patron was: Three Gothic courts are his, and in the first Was my abiding-place, a nook obscure..."
