Sometimes it is hard to described exactly why a performance comes up to perfection in a recording, and this is an instance where our breath was taken away by the solemn beauty and absolute 'rightness' of vocal quality, orchestral playing, choice, registration and balance of the organ... Here, at last, from no less than five versions of the Requiem in the last three years, we have what we consider to be the ideal performance
