06 May 2018 - Choral Evensong

Recorded on
Sunday, 6 May 2018

The canticle settings, anthem and voluntary from this service are all recent commissions made by St. John's.

Phillip Moore's St. John's Service was first performed by the Choir under Dr. David Hill in 2006. It makes striking use of chamber organ accompaniment, normally only heard in much earlier music.

Michael Finnissy's Dum transisset Sabbatum and Dum transisset Sabbatum (double) were commissioned by the Master and Fellows in 2017. They are a compositional response to John Taverner's sixteenth century setting of the same text, which was sung by the Choir live on BBC Radio 3 last week on Wednesday 2nd May.
