17 November 2017 - Choral Evensong

Friday, 17 November 2017

This week's webcast features Pelham Humfrey's Evening Service in E Minor. Humfrey died at the age of 27, but exerted a strong influence on his peers even at his young age. His early death is considered one of the greatest tragedies in the history of English music; at his death he had already produced several works of great poignancy and expressive power including the Verse Anthem O Lord my God, which features alongside the Evening Service and works by Henry Purcell in the St John's CD release 'My Beloved Spake'.
