19 May 2019 - Choral Evensong
Lennox Berkeley's Chichester service was first performed at evensong at Chichester Cathedral on July 26th 1980 by the combined choirs of Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals.
Dum transisset Sabbatum is the third response at Matins on Easter Sunday. Michael Finnissy's work takes as its inspiration the piece of the same name by 16th century composer John Taverner. It is in essence a refraction of that piece through a looking-glass, with structures and motivic material from Taverner reimagined in a 21st century idiom. Dum transisset Sabbatum is one of nine movements in a new large-scale work by Finnissy, to be performed in its entirety for the first time at evensong on June 28th.
Michael Finnissy has been the College's Composer-in-Residence since 2016.
