27 May 2018 - Choral Evensong

Giles Swayne has sustained a long-term interest in the music of Africa, first making a study trip there as a student in the early 1980's. His setting of the text of the Magnificat, sung in this service, pays clear debt to this fruitful interaction.

Sergei Rachmaninoff held a deep, personal religious faith. He expressed this faith most notably with two great liturgical settings in the 1910's: The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom (1910) and the All-Night Vigil (1915), both of which are represented in this service by the Nunc Dimittis and the Anthem.
